What's My Child Learning This Week?
Reading-We begin a unit on author's purpose. Generally, an author writes for three reasons: to persuade, to inform, and/or to entertain. The primary reading text is from the basal: Dig, Wait, Listen, A Desert's Tale. We also focus on using context clues to define unfamiliar words.
Math-We continue our unit on measurement. We focus this week on liquid units: cups, pints, quarters, and gallons. Students will be formally introduced to the "gallon man".
Social Studies-We continue our unit on Changes Over Time. We focus this week about life in the "olden days". We will revisit the skills of main idea and compare/contrast.
Word Wall-There are no new words this week. Instead, we will identify nouns (plural and singular, verbs, adjectives, synonyms, compound words, and contractions. No word wall activities for this week!
Writing-We are reviewing and writing the steps to the writing process. We are reviewing how to generate and elaborate ideas! We continue with cursive writing of lower case letters.
Tests/Quizzes
* Reading comprehension quiz Friday, February 19th. (Study guide will go home today.)
*Subtraction timed test Thursday, February 18th. Some students will take basic subtraction while others will take double-digit subtraction. Students know which test they will take. Please practice at home.
*Word Wall quiz this Friday.
*Changes Over Time/"Olden Days"(social studies) main idea quiz Wednesay, February 17th. Study guide will go home today.
*Measurement quiz on feet/inches Thursday. A study guide will not be sent home. Students have daily practice in class. This quiz will also include problem solving.
