
What's My Child Learning This Week?
Math-This week, we begin double-digit subtraction. We will also review double-digit addition and rounding to the nearest ten (10). We will also practice using mental math to recall basic addition and subtraction facts.
Reading-We begin a unit on context clues/multiple meaning words. We will use a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts. Our book focus this week is "Teach Us, Amelia Bedelia" by Peggy Parish.
Writing- We focus on adding a great lead to the beginning of a story. We will review/discuss elaborating details for a main idea.
Science-We continue our unit on dinosaurs! This week, students are learning about the characteristics of certain dinosaurs.
Word Wall- Our word wall words this week have multiple meanings: bowl, light, roll, spring, star.
Tests/Quizzes
* Word Wall quiz Friday, January 8th.
*Timed addition/subtraction tests this Friday, January 8th. Students know whether they are taking addition or subtraction.
*Writing Prompt this Thursday. Students will be assessed on how well they are progressing in writing.
